The College of Technical Sciences at Montana State University Northern (MSUN), invites applications for a 10-month (academic-year), faculty position in Diesel Technology/Agricultural Mechanics Technology to begin August 1, 2026. This position may be filled as a tenure track Assistant Professor or a non-tenure track Lecturer I.

Effective teaching is the primary mission of MSU-Northern.

General Statement

MSU-Northern is seeking a faculty member to become an active contributor to its world-class Diesel Technology Program. Applicants qualifying for either tenure track or non-tenure track are encouraged to apply. The faculty member in this position will teach approximately 24 credit hours of lecture/laboratory courses per academic year. Courses assigned will be in Diesel Technology and/or Agricultural Mechanics Technology and may include, but are not limited to, fuel systems, electrical/electronic systems, powertrains, chassis, air conditioning, and agricultural equipment.

Academic and career advising will be a responsibility associated with this position. In addition, the successful candidate will be involved in curriculum development, program growth, and program assessment, and will work with an external industry-specific advisory board. Academic responsibilities will also include serving on campus committees, engaging in campus activities, and serving as an ambassador for, and collegiate member of, the College of Technical Sciences.

Required Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

Assistant Professor or Lecturer 1:

  1. Education and experience commensurate with rank.

  2. Industry experience in the Diesel Technology and/or Agricultural Mechanics fields with increasing responsibility and expertise demonstrated.

  3. Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communications.

  4. Demonstrated strength in interpersonal skills

Note: For tenure track, a master's degree will be required for tenure. A bachelor's degree in diesel technology or related field will be required to be considered for the rank of Assistant Professor.

Preferred Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Demonstrated recent industry work experience with a strong background in electrical/electronics, hydraulics, brakes, suspensions, heavy-duty automatic transmissions, engines, and air conditioning, powertrains and agricultural equipment in the diesel or agriculture industry
  • Demonstrated experience with grain harvesting equipment, agricultural tractors, forage implements, sprayers, tillage, and planting implements
  • Experience and willingness to embrace new technologies

The Successful Candidate Will Special Requirements

A teaching demonstration by the candidate will be required as a part of the interview process.
