This role focuses on repairing, maintaining, and inspecting vehicles and equipment that support transportation operations across the region. It requires strong mechanical skill and attention to safety. As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:

  • Vehicle Repairs: Repair cars, trucks, tractors, and heavy equipment across multiple systems
  • Preventative Maintenance: Complete routine service tasks to reduce wear and extend equipment life
  • Diagnostics: Identify mechanical issues using tools and procedures to determine proper repair steps
  • Safety Compliance: Follow safety rules, use proper protective equipment, and maintain a safe workspace
  • Inspections: Carry out official state safety and emissions inspections and complete required documentation
  • Recordkeeping: Maintain accurate equipment service records and report damage or missing parts

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours vary from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, 12:00 AM to 8:00 AM, and 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Shift work, overtime, and travel are required.. Work hours are subject to change during the summer and winter seasons.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $55,492 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the commonwealths Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) ; or
  • Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment ; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training .

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of an active Class A or Class B Commercial Drivers License and any endorsements necessary to operate specific vehicles or equipment.
  • This position requires possession of an active Medical Examiners Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations on the first day of employment.
  • This position requires an active Pennsylvania Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
  • This position requires possession of an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) by end of probationary period.

Additional Requirements:

  • This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
