Role Description The Automotive Service Writer is responsible for managing the customer experience from initial contact through vehicle delivery. This role serves as the primary liaison between customers and the service department for both automotive repair and tire services. The Service Writer ensures accurate repair orders, proper scheduling, clear communication, and timely completion of services. Strong automotive knowledge, sales confidence, and organizational skills are essential. This position is ideal for a motivated, customer-focused professional who understands that proper communication, accurate estimates, and strong coordination directly impact customer satisfaction, shop efficiency, and profitability. Responsibilities Customer Service & Repair Order Management Greet customers promptly and professionally Document customer vehicle concerns accurately Open and close repair orders for automotive repairs and tire services Explain diagnostic findings and repair recommendations clearly Provide accurate written estimates for repairs, maintenance, and tire replacement Obtain customer authorization prior to performing work Communicate service updates and completion timelines Review completed repairs and tire services at vehicle pickup Automotive Repair & Tire Coordination Coordinate workflow between technicians and customers for: o Engine diagnostics and mechanical repairs o Brake, suspension, steering, and electrical services o Preventative maintenance services o Tire sales, mounting, balancing, rotations, and alignments Verify labor times, parts pricing, and tire specifications Assist with tire inventory tracking and special orders Ensure proper documentation of warranties and road hazard coverage Sales & Performance Support Support store sales goals for labor, parts, and tire sales Recommend preventative maintenance and tire upgrades when appropriate Monitor average repair order (ARO) and gross profit targets Assist leadership with daily operational performance metrics Administrative & Financial Duties Process payments and reconcile invoices Balance cash drawer and maintain accurate documentation Schedule appointments and manage daily shop capacity Maintain organized service records and customer files Qualifications & Skills Must have automotive repair knowledge (mechanical and tire services) Prior Service Writer or Service Advisor experience preferred Strong sales and customer service background Ability to explain technical repairs in simple, clear language Strong organizational and multitasking skills Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume shop environment Basic computer and POS system proficiency Strong communication and teamwork skills Education and Experience High School Diploma/GED equivalent required 2+ years automotive repair or service writing experience preferred Experience in tire sales and service coordination is a plus Work Environment & Schedule Monday - Saturday - during normal business operations Full-time, on-site role Standing, walking, and frequent movement between front office and service bays Exposure to shop environment including noise and varying temperatures Works closely with technicians, management, and support staff Benefits 401k and PTO Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods Frequent walking between service counter and shop area Ability to lift up to 25 lbs as needed Manual dexterity for computer use, paperwork, and payment processing Ability to work in a busy automotive service environment Recommended Pay Range $20 - $28 per hour (based on experience) Job Type: Full-time Benefits: 401(k) Flexible schedule Paid time off Work Location: In person
