Independent Vehicle Inspector Opportunity - 1099 Contractor Assignments

Clunker Busters is building a nationwide network of independent vehicle inspectors to help used-car buyers get a clearer picture before they buy. We are especially looking for inspectors based in or near San Jose, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Mountain View, Milpitas, Campbell, Cupertino, Los Gatos, Morgan Hill, Gilroy, and nearby South Bay areas. Assignments may also include the Peninsula, East Bay, and surrounding areas depending on distance and availability.

We are looking for experienced auto technicians, mobile mechanics, retired mechanics, dealership/service techs, and qualified vehicle inspectors in the NYC / tri-state area.

This is not a full-time employee position. It is flexible, per-assignment 1099 contractor work. Inspectors may accept or decline assignments based on location, schedule, and availability.

What youll do
Perform used-vehicle inspections for buyers before purchase.

Typical assignments include:
Exterior and interior condition review
Photos of key areas, defects, dash lights, VIN, tires, underbody/visible rust, and engine bay
Basic mechanical/functional checks
OBD2 scan when applicable
Short road test when safe and permitted
Completion of a standardized digital inspection form
No repair work, no towing, no sales, and no haggling with sellers. The job is inspection and documentation.

Independent shop mechanic
Fleet mechanic
Used-car inspector
Retired mechanic
Experienced diagnostic/repair professional
Strong DIY experience may be considered, but this is not an entry-level role.

Requirements
Real automotive inspection, diagnostic, or repair experience
Reliable transportation
Smartphone with good camera
Basic tools and OBD2 scanner
Ability to take clear photos and complete a digital checklist
Good communication and reliability
Willingness to travel locally for assignments
Written independent contractor agreement required
Independent contractor status
This is a 1099 independent contractor opportunity. Inspectors are paid per completed inspection, may accept or decline assignments, provide their own tools/equipment/transportation, and are responsible for their own taxes, insurance, and expenses.
