Diesel Technician Job Description The Diesel Technician diagnoses, repairs, and maintains semi-trucks and other diesel-powered equipment to ensure safe, reliable operation. This role focuses on troubleshooting key vehicle systems, performing routine and preventive maintenance, and completing high-quality repairs while following established safety standards and documentation procedures. Responsibilities Diagnose and repair mechanical and technical issues on semi-trucks and other diesel-powered equipment. Troubleshoot vehicle systems including suspensions, steering, and exhaust systems to identify root causes of problems. Repair or replace components such as brakes, lights, air systems, tires, and electrical parts to restore proper function. Perform routine maintenance services, including oil changes and other scheduled preventive maintenance tasks. Inspect diesel engines and related systems to detect wear, damage, or potential failures and recommend appropriate repairs. Work on diesel equipment, semis, and heavy equipment as needed to support ongoing operations. Use proper tools and diagnostic methods to efficiently identify and resolve hydraulic, brake, and electrical issues. Keep detailed and accurate records of parts used, services performed, and repairs completed in accordance with company procedures. Follow all company safety standards and best practices to maintain a safe work environment. Communicate clearly with team members and leadership about repair status, required parts, and any safety concerns. Demonstrate a willingness to learn new techniques, tools, and technologies and grow professionally within the field. Support consistent, high-quality service for long-term contracts by completing work on time and to specification. Essential Skills At least 3 years of experience as a Diesel Technician or mechanic. Hands-on experience performing oil changes and routine maintenance on diesel vehicles. Proven experience with brake repairs, including inspection, adjustment, and replacement. Experience working on vehicle lighting systems, including troubleshooting and replacing lights and related components. Background working on diesel equipment, semi-trucks, and heavy equipment. Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems. Practical knowledge of diesel engines and diesel repair methods. Experience working with brake systems and hydraulic components. Ability to perform preventive maintenance according to established schedules and checklists. Ability to work with electrical components and systems in a repair and maintenance setting. Valid driver's license. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience performing comprehensive diagnostics on suspensions, steering, and exhaust systems. Familiarity with air systems on semi-trucks, including diagnosis and repair. Ability to interpret basic technical information related to diesel engines and vehicle systems. Strong attention to detail when documenting parts used and services performed. Commitment to following safety protocols and maintaining a clean, organized work area. Willingness to continue learning and developing skills in diesel technology and heavy equipment maintenance. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced service environment. Work Environment This is a first-shift position with a 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. schedule, operating on a rotating pattern that provides extended periods of time off. Two schedule options are available: one rotation where you work Sunday, Monday, Tuesday one week, then Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday the following week (3 days off, 3 days on, 4 days off, 4 days on); and another rotation where you work Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday one week, then Thursday, Friday, Saturday the next week (3 days off, 3 days on, 4 days off, 4 days on). The role is based in a facility dedicated to the repair and maintenance of semi-trailers under a long-standing contract, providing a steady flow of work and a structured service environment. Technicians work with diesel engines, hydraulic and brake systems, electrical components, and other heavy equipment systems in a shop setting that emphasizes safety, organization, and adherence to company standards. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Warren, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
