The Body Shop Estimator meets and establishes rapport with customers, justifies needed repairs and costs, and follows up with customers to ensure their satisfaction. The Body Shop Estimator estimates damage to vehicles visually and, in addition, is capable of dismantling portions of the damaged vehicle, as necessary, to evaluate damage more accurately. This person completes an estimate sheet, documenting damage and repairs required, and a work/repair order, itemizing parts and materials required. In addition, this person calculates labor and painting costs in order to determine the total cost of the repair. The Body Shop Estimator assigns repair orders to Body Shop employees based on the shop schedule and on the availability and specialty of technicians. This person evaluates the quality of a repair job by a technician and, if necessary, returns the vehicle to the Technician for additional work if the repair does not meet quality standards.
The Body Shop Estimator understands insurance company estimates of repairs and checks them for accuracy and comprehensiveness. This person completes the parts order sheet for all orders, investigates alternative sources for hard-to-locate parts, and checks parts when delivered. In large part, this person should be capable of working without close supervision, managing his/her own time and workflow.

Ability to maintain communication between the Body Shop Manager and the Parts Department
Knowledge of approved and established procedures for conducting repairs
Ability to stay current by reading shop manuals, technical bulletins, and attending product schools, etc.
Knowledge of and ability to comply with quality control and inspection requirements in Body Shop
Ability to visually inspect damage and to estimate accurately
Ability to document and itemize repairs on estimate sheet
Ability to estimate time of repair job for purposes of efficient scheduling
Ability to review insurance company estimates for accuracy
Knowledge of pans inventory and ability to order parts and materials not in inventory
