Position Summary & Responsibilities:
Position Summary:
This Mechanic I position works in the District One office located in Olathe, KS. This position exists to perform skilled maintenance and repair of vehicles in support of the agency's construction and maintenance activities.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
Performs light mechanical repairs to cooling and electrical systems as well as tune-ups, brake and drive train repairs.
Performs vehicle service such as oil change, lubrication, wheel packs, tire repair and balance, and equipment inspections.
Obtain parts necessary for equipment repair.
Keep shop and equipment records.
Use oxyacetylene torch during repairs.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Six months of experience in automotive mechanics to meet the needs of the agency.
Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency. Transcripts are required for education to be considered.
Valid Driver's License at time of appointment.
Post-Offer/Pre-employment Requirements:
A CDL must be obtained within 90 days of hire and maintained. KDOT provides CDL training at no cost to the employee.
This position is subject to pre-employment physical capacity testing. The selected candidate will be required to pass the screening as a condition of employment.
The selected candidate for this position will be expected to have their own hand tools to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position. Applicants will be considered for the position without the required tools; however, the required tools must be available for use on the first day of work.
This CDL position is subject to drug and alcohol testing under the authority of the US Department of Transportation. The selected candidate will be required to pass a DOT pre-employment/pre-duty drug test as a condition of employment in this position. (This position will also require you to participate in random testing, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, return-to-duty, and follow-up testing.)
Any Commercial Driver who has received a Confirmed Positive Result or the Equivalent and has not successfully completed all Rehabilitation Program requirements and follow-up testing requirements is not eligible for this position. (Per SOM 2.1.10).
Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate: A valid Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate is a condition of employment for all employees of the State of Kansas. Applicants (including non-residents) who receive a formal job offer for a State job, are required to obtain a valid Tax Clearance within ten (10) days of the job offer. A Tax Clearance can be obtained through the Kansas Department of Revenue who reviews individual accounts for compliance with Kansas Tax Law.
