Job SummaryThe HVAC & General Mechanic has responsibilities that include, but are not limited to, performing the maintenance of HVAC and refrigeration systems and assisting the Director of the Physical Plant in the day-to-day operation of the physical plant. The HVAC & General Mechanic is also responsible for safely and effectively operating mechanical and electrical equipment. This is a non-exempt position that reports to LSCPA's Physical Plant Department. Duties/Responsibilities
  • Inspect, repair, modify and install HVAC equipment including refrigeration and air conditioning compressors, receivers, condensers, chillers, boilers, forced air converter units, pumps, automatic and hand valves, expansion valves and capillary tubes, following manufacturer recommendations
  • Conduct regular preventive maintenance inspections of refrigeration units, isolated heating and ventilating units, equipment, and make necessary repair evaporative coolers
  • Repair or replace defective parts in units and equipment and their controls, including thermostats, automatic louvers, relays, filters, BAS controls, pressure controls, safety valves, and automatic gas valves, etc.
  • Operate a variety of hand and power tools, welder torch, vacuum pump, test equipment utilized in the trade and safe working condition; maintain parts and tool inventory
  • Perform skilled electrical maintenance work in the repair, installation and alteration of HVAC equipment, connect motors to control panels
  • Safely operate all equipment and work assignments
  • Comply with campus policies and procedures
  • Other related duties, as assigned

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • 3-5 years of experience in a large-scale facility
  • Proficiency in HVAC and Refrigeration with proper certifications
  • Experience with V.F.D.s; V.A.V. and integrated energy management systems
Supplemental Information

Physical Requirements:
This position requires employees to move about most of the time; move to various locations on campus; move about inside an office to access documents, office equipment, move about inside buildings to complete repairs etc.; and operate machines and tools, such as brushes, rollers, spraying equipment.
