A Body Shop Estimator assesses vehicle damage to calculate repair costs for insurance claims or customer payments. The Estimator ensures smooth business operations while collaborating with insurance adjusters and customers to provide quality service and maintain customer satisfaction.
The Estimator's key responsibilities include:
Inspecting vehicles to identify the extent of damage to the structure, body, mechanical systems, or interior.Preparing cost estimates by calculating the prices of parts, supplies, labor, and customer payments, including any deductibles for repairs or replacements.Contacting insurance companies to obtain estimates, discussing damage with insurance adjusters, and addressing repair and replacement needs.Creating work orders that detail necessary repairs and replacements, securing approvals, and entering work orders into the management system.Communicating with customers to explain estimates and expected return times for their vehicles.Ensuring high-quality repairs and reducing the number of return jobs.Conducting spot checks of completed work for thoroughness and quality.Keeping accurate records of repairs and replacements.Staying updated on job knowledge through educational opportunities.Enhancing the body shop's reputation by providing excellent customer service.
Candidates should have prior automotive experience, and estimating experience is preferred. Automotive certifications or a degree in the field are a plus. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, hold a valid driver's license, and pass pre-employment background and drug tests.
